Educational objectives

The course is aimed at giving to the students the comprehension of the behavior of organic molecules as a prerequisite to further understand biochemistry and the chemistry of biological compound.
The course is also aimed at introducing the students to the scientific method.

7 crediti frontali
- Hydrocarbons
- Functional groups
- Iupac nomenclature of organic molecules
- Conformational analysis
- Stereochemistry
- Introduction to organic physical-chemistry
- Acidity and basicity in the organic reactions
- SN1, SN2, E1,E2 mechanisms
- Alkenes and Alkynes: reactivity
- Alchools, Ethers, Amines: reactivity
- Aromatic compound and elecrophilic aromatic substitution
- Carbonylic and carboxylic groups: reactivity
- Organic and enzymatic reactions
- Proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, peptides, nucleic acids and proteins

Laboratory: 2 credits

1) : Purification through distillation
2) : Separation of a three component mixture
3) : SN1 and purification via distoillation
4) : Carbohydrates
5) : Polarimeter

Exam methods

The students will undergo an oral examination
